چکیده

We present the interferometric measurements of 2.6 mm CO (J = 1 ! 0) emission (F W HM 5 00) and the analysis of IRAS HIRES images of two Hickson Compact Groups HCG 31 and HCG 92 (\Stephan's Quintet"). The far infrared (FIR) emission is concentrated to a single region in HCG 31 while it is clearly extended and peaks near the group center in HCG 92. CO emission is weak in HCG 31, and the brightest peak occurs in the overlap region between the galaxies A & C. CO emission is detected only in galaxy C (NGC 7319) in HCG 92, and the distribution is highly asymmetric. No CO emission is detected in the interacting pair HCG 92 B & D (NGC 7318 A&B). Gas stripping and star formation by continuous tidal disruptions in compact group environment are discussed as possible explanations for the observed CO deeciency and peculiar molecular gas distribution in HCG 31 and HCG 92.

Ja n 20 02 The VLA HI Observations of the Stephan ’ s Quintet ( HCG 92 )

Using the VLA 1 , we have made spectral-line and continuum observations of the neutral hydrogen in the direction of the compact group of galaxies Stephan's Quintet. The high-velocity clouds between 5600 and 6600 km s −1 , the disk of the foreground galaxy, NGC 7320, at 800 km s −1 , the extended continuum ridge near the center of the group, and 3 faint dwarf-like galaxies in the surrounding fie...

Co in Stephan’s Quintet: First Evidence of Molecular Gas in the Intragroup Starburst

We present the first interferometric evidence of CO (1–0) emission in the intragroup starburst (IGS) region of HCG 92 (Stephan’s Quintet). BIMA’s large primary beam fully covers both the IGS region and the dominant group member Seyfert galaxy NGC 7319, as well as partially covering the intruder galaxy NGC 7318B. CO emission of *4 j is detected in all of them. The detection of the CO emission as...

The Compact Group of Galaxies Hcg 31 Is in an Early Phase of Merging

We have obtained high spectral resolution (R = 45900) Fabry-Perot velocity maps of the Hickson Compact Group HCG 31 in order to revisit the important problem of the merger nature of the central object A+C and to derive the internal kinematics of the candidate tidal dwarf galaxies in this group. Our main findings are: (1) double kinematic components are present throughout the main body of A+C, w...

A High Resolution Mosaic of Molecular Gas in Stephan’s Quintet

We present high resolution CO J=1−0 observations of the molecular gas in the Hickson Compact Group Stephan’s Quintet (HCG92). Our observations consist of multiple pointing and mosaics covering all the regions where CO and star formation has been detected. Within the 100 field of view centered on the eastern-most tidal tail, we detect three clumps of emission that may be partially resolved at ou...
